The selection process is divided into four stages:
1. Telephonic Interview
A short interview with basic questions to assess communication skills and confidence. Successful candidates will be invited to the next stages.
2. Entry test – Literacy and Numeracy
Applicants complete short assessments in spelling, numeracy, sentence comprehension and a practical task.
3. Interview and Moderation Session
A structured interview with a panel to evaluate qualities such as diligence, respect, problem solving, teamwork and values. Successful applicants receive a presentation topic to prepare for the final stage.
4. Project Presentation
Applicants present their topic to a panel in five minutes without electronic aids. Scoring is based on clarity, structure, relevance, confidence and overall impression.
Stages two to four are conducted at the recruitment venue, which will be announced in advance. These stages take place during the course of one day. Travel and accommodation costs must be carried by the invited applicants.
This four stage process ensures that selection is unbiased and that only the most suitable applicants progress. It is designed to identify not just academic ability, but also personal qualities such as initiative, integrity and enthusiasm — the features that make future leaders.
