Horticulture and Crop Husbandry Level 2

The National Vocational Certificate in Horticulture and Crop Husbandry Level 2 is a 10 month programme delivered at Desert Academy Maltahöhe. It is accredited by the Namibia Training Authority and covers all the unit standards required for competence in crop production, horticulture, irrigation, composting, pest and disease control, harvesting, post harvest handling, farm numeracy, english and workplace safety. Trainees are expected to master both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order to successfully complete the NTA assessments.

At Desert Academy we extend the curriculum with a strong emphasis on organic farming and entrepreneurship. Trainees are guided not only in sustainable agricultural practices but also in how to think and act like entrepreneurs, preparing them to create opportunities and drive innovation in rural economies. Life skills are integrated into the programme as compulsory modules. These cover personal relationships, health and wellness, reproductive choices, prevention of gender based violence, awareness of HIV and substance abuse, financial management, mental health and building respectful communities. The aim is to equip trainees with practical knowledge and values that will guide them in everyday decisions and prepare them for responsible participation in society.

Experience The Living Classroom

The unique feature of our programme is the living classroom approach. Trainees spend extensive time in our RuralRevive business environment where they apply their learning in real enterprises. This includes farms, nurseries and agribusiness projects linked to hospitality and community development. Through these placements trainees build a portfolio of evidence, gain confidence and experience the realities of Namibia’s rural economy. Mentorship and structured job attachments ensure that learning is practical, hands on and directly connected to community transformation.
